Effective December 16, 2019, the USDOT# is required on the new DMV registration & title form (RTA) for the following commercial operators. If your commercial business qualifies, follow the instructions below to obtain your USDOT#
Who is affected?
Motor carriers operating the following CMVs including leased vehicles that are:
- Engaged in intrastate commerce having a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 or more pounds; or
- Transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placarding; or
- Designed to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, used in intrastate commerce in the state of Massachusetts.

Penalties:
If a USDOT number is not obtained and displayed by September 1, 2018, companies will be subject to a civil fine and/or your CMVs will be placed out of service until a USDOT number is obtained.
